Activities:

Walk Like a Turkey

Walk like a turkey,

waddle, waddle, waddle.

Talk like a turkey,

gobble, gobble, gobble!

Run like a turkey,

'round and 'round.

But when it's Thanksgiving,

don't make a sound!

I'm a Great Big Turkey

(Tune: 'I'm a Little Teapot')

I'm a great big turkey,

'cause I'm well fed.

Watch me spread my feathers,

watch me bob my head.

When I strut around

I waddle, waddle, waddle!

And when I talk

I "gobble, gobble, gobble!"

I'm a great big turkey,

and I'd love to stay.

But Thanksgiving's coming,

so time to run away!

10 Fat Turkeys

Ten fat turkeys standing in a row.                                    (Hold up hands, fingers together)

They spread their wings and tails just so.                         (Spread fingers)

They look to the left,                                                        (Lean hands to the left)

Then they look to the right.                                             (Lean hands to the right)

When they strut their stuff, they're quite a sight!            (Move hands back and forth)

But you won't get to see them on Thanksgiving Day,

'cause one by one they'll run away!  Ten, nine, eight......     (Put fingers down, one by one)

The Turkey Wore a Red Feather

(Tune: Mary Wore a Red Dress)

Use the template below to cut the turkey from felt.  Cut out and glue on eyes, a waddle and a beak.  Cut

out feathers of 8-10 different colors.  Put the turkey on your felt board.  Add a feather and sing the verse.  Continue adding feathers until all are on.  Complete the activity by singing the final verse.

Turkey wore a red feather, red feather, red feather,

Turkey wore a red feather all day long.

            …blue…

            …yellow…

            …green…

            …orange…

            …purple…

Last verse…

Turkey wore rainbow feathers, rainbow feathers, rainbow feathers.

Turkey wore rainbow feathers all night long.

Five Fat Turkeys

Five fat turkeys were sitting on a fence.                     Hold up one hand

The first one said “I’m so immense!”                         Point to thumb

The second one said “I can gobble at you!”               Pointer finger

The third one said “I can gobble, too!”                      Middle finger

The fourth one said “I can spread my tail.”                Ring finger

The fifth one said “Don’t catch it on a nail.”             Little finger

A farmer came along and stopped to say:                  Pointer finger of other hand

“Turkeys look best on Thanksgiving Day!”

The Turkey

Begin by opening your left hand with your palm facing forward.  Place the right hand in a fist in the center of the left palm with the thumb facing outward.

Gobble gobble

Says the turkey.                                  Wiggle thumb to show turkey speaking.

Soon t’will be Thanksgiving Day.

Will you eat me?

How you treat me!

I will run away!                            Wiggle fingers and move both hands quickly to make the turkey run quickly away

Crafts:

Colorful Turkey

To make this craft, cut the template pieces out of construction paper. Glue the pieces on a background piece of paper. Add wiggly eyes.

Template: http://www.thebestkidsbooksite.com/craftdetails.cfm?TopicID=464

Here are some files with the pieces on separate templates so it is easier to copy the turkey's body on brown paper, waddle on red paper, beak on yellow paper, feathers on colored paper, etc.

Turkey 1.bmp - Red paper

Turkey 2.bmp - Yellow paper

Turkey 3.bmp - Brown paper

Turkey 4.bmp - Various colors for feathers

Leafy Turkey Craft

Use Templates 1, 2, and 3 above for the turkey. Instead of feathers, glue colorful real or accucut leaves onto the back.
