Begin by explaining that hippos like to sit in the mud to cool off, so you can all pretend to be hippos in the mud for this song.

You put your right foot in.

You take right  foot out.

You put your right foot in.

And you squish it all about.

You do the hippo pokey and you hop down in the mud..

That's how a hippo cools off!
