Waves In the Ocean

(Tune: The Wheels on the Bus)

The waves in the ocean go up and down,

Up and down, up and down.

The waves in the ocean go up and down, all day long!

The fish in the ocean go swim, swim, swim…

The lobsters in the ocean go snap, snap, snap…

The clams in the ocean go open and shut…

The jellyfish in the ocean go wibble, wobble, wibble

The crabs in the ocean crawl back and forth…

The dolphins in the ocean go splish, splash, splish…

Teasing Mr. Shark
Five little fishes swimming in the sea,
Teasing Mr. Shark “You can't catch me!”
Along came Mr. Shark, as quiet as can be…
and SNAPPED that fish right out of the sea!

 4, 3, 2, 1…

No little fishes swimming in the sea,

Teasing Mr. Shark “You can't catch me!”
Along came Mr. Shark, as full as can be

He ate all the fishes swimming in the sea!

I'm a Little Fishy

(To the tune of: I'm a Little Teapot)

**Ask kids to act out the song with you. You may have to do it twice for them.

I'm a little fishy, I can swim.

Here is my tail, here is my fin.

When I want to have fun with my friends,

I wiggle my tail and dive right in!

Crafts:

Octopus

Cut the bottom half of a paper towel tube into eight sections. Curl them upwards so the octopus is sitting on his curled legs. Glue wiggly eyes onto the top half and draw on a mouth. Use small circle stickers or draw circles on the legs.

Tissue Paper Ocean Animal

Find a large template of an ocean animal, like an octopus, clam, whale, or just a fish. Copy onto cardstock or another heavy paper and cut enough for your group. Lay small pieces of colorful tissue paper over it and 'paint' gently with water. The color will soak through into the paper. The tissue paper dries quickly and falls off or you can peel it off as you paint. (NOTE: Be sure to test this out first with the tissue paper you will e using! Not all tissue paper bleeds well)

Contact Paper Jellyfish

Cut large ½ ovals out of contact paper. Right before the program, pull the paper up from the sticky part and cut a smaller oval out of the middle, leaving the edge covered with paper. Give each child two pieces. They can cover the sticky part with glitter, sequins, tissue paper, sparkly scrap paper, or whatever you want to provide. When they are done, they can pull off the last bit of paper and stick the two pieces together.

Paper Plate Fish (From: www.thebestkidsbooksite.com)

BEFORE storytime, cut a triangle-shaped mouth out of a paper plate, and cut extra plates into 8 triangles to make fins. Have children glue 2 fins on their fish and the smaller mouth piece should be used for the tail. Have children decorate their fish and use wiggly eyes.
