Five Fat Peas

Five fat peas in a pea pod pressed

(hold hand in a fist)

One grew, two grew, and so did all the rest.

(put thumb and fingers up one by one)

They grew and grew,

(raise hand in the air very slowly)

And did not stop,

Until one day

The pod went POP!

(clap hands together)

Doughnut
Here is a doughnut,                (Make circle with fingers)
Round and fat.
There's a hole in the middle,  (Hold circle up to eye)
But you can't eat that!           (Shake head)

If You Like…

If you like cookies, clap your hands.

If you like cookies, clap your hands.

If you like cookies, show it on your face.

If you like cookies, clap your hands.

If you like cheese, stamp your feet.

If you like cheese, stamp your feet.

If you like bananas, rub your tummy.

If you like bananas, rub your tummy.

If you like bananas, show it on your face.

If you like bananas, rub your tummy.

When Susie's Eating Custard

by John Foster
When Susie's eating custard,
She gets it everywhere.
Down her bib, up her nose,
All over her high chair.

She pokes it with her fingers.
She spreads it on her hair.
When Susie's eating custard,
She gets it everywhere.

I’m a Little Food

(Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)

Place the foods on the flannelboard as you sing about them. Have the children do the movements suggested by the song—but only if they like the food in the verse.

I’m an ice cream cone—                                             I’m a slice of bread—

I’m very sweet.                                                           I’m good with jelly.

If you like me,                                                             If you like me,

Then stamp your feet.                                                 Then pat your belly.

I’m a little carrot                                                         I’m a ripe banana—

From the garden bed.                                                  Inside is a surprise.

If you like me,                                                             If you like me,

Then nod your head.                                                   Then blink your eyes.

I’m an ear of corn—                                                   I’m a little fish

I grow in rows.                                                            From the big, big sea.

If you like me,                                                             Jump up and down

Then touch your toes.                                                 If you like me.

I’m a little apple                                                          I’m a chocolate cake—

From the apple tree.                                                    I’m for dessert.

If you like me,                                                             If you like me,

Then slap your knee.                                                   Then touch your shirt.

I’m a bunch of grapes,

And I make juice.

If you like me,

Then shake your shoes.

I’m a slice of cheese—

I go with bread.

If you like me,

Then nod your head.

I’m a little fish

From the big, big sea.

Jump up and down

If you like me.

Who's the Baker? activity

Trace and cut out the shapes of several cookie cutters onto heavy paper and decorate to look like cookies (laminate them for extra durability, if possible). Give each child a cookie cutter and store the "cookies" in a bag or basket. Pull out each cookie one at a time and ask, "Who's the baker?". Have the children look at their cookie and determine if the cookie matches the shape of their cookie cutter. Continue until you've found all the bakers.

Crafts:

Watermelon

Glue green rind onto bottom edge of red fruit. Give each child a small cup with about a tablespoon of black paint in it. Make seeds with thumbprints using black paint.

Pizza:

Give each child a large circle cut from brown paper. Let them glue on "toppings": pepperoni - red circles, cheese -yellow ribbon, peppers - green ribbon or paper strips, olives - black circles, etc.

Lacing Cheese

Print and cut the template below. Kids can color it as they'd like and then use a piece of yarn to practice lacing. You can add an Accucut mouse as well.
