5 little ducks went out one day, (hold up 5 fingers)
Over the hills and far away. (make wave motion with hands to indicate 'hills')
Mother duck said, quack, quack, quack! (open and close hand to 'quack')
But only 4 little ducks came back. (hold up 4 fingers)
Etc, until...
No little ducks went out one day,
Over the hills and far away.
Mother duck said, quack, quack, quack!
And 5 little ducks came wandering back!

Five Friendly Farmers
Five friendly farmers
Wake up the sun
For it is early morning
And the chores must be done
The first friendly farmer
Goes to milk the cow
The second friendly farmer
Thought he'd better plow
The third friendly farmer
Feeds the hungry hens
The fourth friendly farmer
Puts the piggies in their pen
The fifth friendly farmer
Picks the nice ripe corn
And waves to the neighbor
As he blows his horn
When the work is finished
And the evening sky is red
Five tired farmers
Tumble into bed!
Farm Chores
This is the way we drive the tractor,
drive the tractor, drive the tractor.
This is the way we drive the tractor,
So early in the morning.
Ask kids what other types of things you would do on the farm. Act out their suggestions while singing the song.
Other actions could include mowing the hay, feeding the chicks, sow the seeds, pull the weeds, hoe the field, etc.
The Rooster
The rooster crows each morning
To say the day is new.
We all know just what he'll say,
It's "Cock-a-doodle-doo!"
~Judy Hall~
In the Farmyard
In the farmyard at the end of the day,
Listen to what the animals say:
The cow says, "Moo,"
The pigeon, "Coo."
The sheep says, "Baa,"
The lamb says, "Maa."
The hen, "Cluck, cluck,"
"Quack," says the duck.
The dog, "Bow-wow,"
The cat, "Meow."
The horse, "Neigh,"
The pig grunts, "Oink."
The the barn is closed up tight,
And the farmer says, "Goodnight!"
(adapted Traditional)

BINGO Feltboard
Check out this fantastic idea for making feltboard pieces for this song! It's so easy and really reinforces early literacy skills! http://missmaryliberry.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/feltboard-flannelboard-whatchamacallit-that-thing-you-stick-stuff-on/
Little Boy Blue
Little Boy Blue,
Come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow,
The cow's in the corn.
Where is the boy
Who looks after the sheep?
He's under a haystack,
Fast asleep.
Will you wake him?
No, not I,
For if I do,
He's sure to cry.
Crafts:
Pig Nose
Collect pink styrofoam egg cartons. Cut the egg carton bottoms (the part the eggs sit in) into its twelve sections and pre-punch a small hole in each side. Let the children draw nostrils on it with black markers, or glue black circles on. Next attach string to both sides and tie it on! (You could also attach pipe cleaners to make it a little sturdier)
Little Boy Blue
Give each child a picture of Little Boy Blue. Have them color the boy with blue crayons or markers. Then let them glue straw or pieces of yellow yarn onto the picture to make the haystack.

Muddy Pigs
Give each child a piece of white paper (or a paper plate 'pigpen') and a couple of pigs cut out of pink paper. Let them glue the pigs onto the paper. They can make the pigs muddy with sponges and brown paint (or pudding if you are worried that they might try to put it in their mouths, but then the picture will probably mold eventually).

Paper Cup Cows
Cut out the template pieces and let kids glue them onto white paper cups. You can also make tails by cutting a fringe of white paper and taping it to a long thin piece of black paper.
