Activities:

I Know a Chicken (Laurie Berkner; Whaddaya Think of That? #11)

Little Rabbit

I saw a little rabbit go hop, hop, hop.

(Hold up two fingers and go hop, hop, hop.)

I saw his long ears go flop, flop, flop.

(Place hands above head and flop at wrists.)

I saw his little eyes go wink, wink, wink.

I saw his little nose go twink, twink, twink.

(Wiggle nose.)

I said, “Little Rabbit, won’t you stay?”

(Make beckoning motion.)

But he just looked at me and hopped away.

(Make two fingers hop away.)

Here is a Bunny

Here is a bunny

with ears so funny.

And here is a hole in the ground.

When a noise he hears,

he pricks up his ears.

And jumps in the hole in the ground!

Hippity Hop

(Hold up fingers like rabbit ears, or ask 5 kids to help you act it out)

Hippety-hop, hippety-hay,

Five little bunnies went out to play.

Hippety-hop, hippety-hay,

One little bunny hopped away.

etc...

Once I Saw a Bunny

Once I Saw a Bunny

(close fist and extend middle and index fingers)

And a green, green cabbage head

(make fist with other hand)

I think I'll have some cabbage

The little bunny said

So he nibbled and he nibbled

(wiggle the two fingers up and down)

And he pricked up his ears to say

(extend fingers straight)

Now I think it's time

I should be hopping on my way.

(hop hand away)

My Little Bunny

My little bunny. (hold up two fingers)

Goes hop, hop, hop. (make “rabbit” hop)

His long, long ears (hold hands straight up on top of head)

Go flop, flop, flop. (flop hands on top of head)

His great big feet

Go stomp, stomp, stomp, (stomp one foot three times)

And his great big teeth (hold two fingers down)

Go chomp, chomp, chomp. (make two fingers and thumb meet three times)

The Colorful Egg Hunt

Directions: Cut out several eggs from felt or paper in the colors mentioned in the poem. Place a felt bunny on the feltboard or use a stuffed animal as the Easter Bunny. Hand the eggs out to the kids and let them place the eggs next to the bunny when they hear the color of their egg named in the poem.

The colorful egg hunt has begun,

Easter Bunny is ready for fun.

So listen well and play this game.

Bring your egg when you hear its name.

Easter Bunny has been looking around,

For a lovely egg of the color brown.

That surely make him a happy fellow,

Now look around for an egg that's yellow.

Brown and yellow, that makes two.

But how he'd like an egg that's blue.

"Blue is find," the bunny said,

"But now I need an egg that's red."

An orange egg would make his day,

So bring an orange without delay.

Orange is, indeed, quite a sight.

Now let's find one as black as night.

Purple, purple, where's that one?

Why, here it is; oh, this is fun!

He needs an egg that's just plain white,

And yours is just so very right.

These are the loveliest eggs I've seen,

But bunny needs an egg that's green.

The egg collection will be fine, I think,

Once we find the egg that's pink.

How many eggs have you shared with me?

Let's take a count and we will see.

Crafts:

Easter Placemat/Picture

Cut a large basket shape out of brown construction paper. Glue your basket shape onto a large piece of legal sized white paper. This will be the base for your placemat. Glue pictures of flowers, bunnies, eggs, chicks, or other Easter things around the basket. Or cut egg shapes out of wallpaper samples, wrapping paper, or any other paper with designs on it. Cover both sides of the placemat with clear contact paper or laminate.

Chicks in a Basket

Cut egg cartons into individual sections. Give each child a large yellow pom-pom, a yellow feather, a chenille stem, a small orange felt or paper triangle for a beak, and a set of wiggly eyes. Glue the pom-pom into the bottom of the egg carton. Glue the feather to the back between the pom pom and the carton. Put the wiggly eyes and orange triangle on the front of the pom pom and attach the chenille stem to the egg carton as a handle.

Paper Chick in an Egg

NCLS has an egg accucut that would work for this. Also, you can use wiggly eyes or eye stickers instead of cutting out the small black circles.
