There are lots of rhymes and songs that fit this theme, but here are a couple examples. Any 'Five little ___' or 'Ten little _____" type rhyme will work.

Five Red Apples

This can easily be made into a flannel set using NCLS accucuts "Apple #1" and "Tree No Leaves". Ask kids to be the wind by waving their arms and blowing - pause at that line to let them be the wind, then continue by drawing a frown on your face and removing one apple from the board.

 

Five Little Kittens

Five little kittens standing in a row.

(hold up 5 fingers)

They nod their heads to the children so.

(bend fingers)

They run to the left, they run to the right,

(run fingers to the left and then to the right)

They stand up and stretch in the bright sunlight.

(stretch fingers out tall)

Along comes a dog who's in for some fun,

(hold up other fist)

MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!

See those kittens run!

 

Rooster Crows

One, two, three

Baby’s on my knee.

Rooster crows….

And away he goes!

Replace red with other colors

Crafts:

Number Fish

Find and print a fish bowl template of your choice onto cardstock paper. Have children decorate the inside of the bowl (the part where the fish swim). Cut four or five fish per child, and put numbers on them before you give them out. Have children decorate their fish, and them glue them "in" the fish bowl!
